Created for Love (CFL) is a foundational moral theology curriculum mandated for all Catholic school students in Grades 6-8 throughout the Archdiocese of Boston. This mandate satisfies Cardinal Seán O’Malley’s chastity, respect life, vocation and morality standards. CFL is designed to be integrated into your existing religion curriculum in Grades 6-8 and is meant to be taught by the (previously trained) religion teacher(s), slowly and methodically, throughout the school year, beginning in the Fall and continuing until the end of the school year, over a period of three years. It should not be taught by religion teachers who have not been previously trained and should not be taught in isolation or as a one-time class. There is no ‘opting out’ since CFL includes the integral components of the Catholic faith, specifically the moral teachings of the Church. Any adaptation of the curriculum and its design without prior authorization from the author is strictly prohibited. All other programs and speakers may be used only in addition to the use of the 2014 CFL curriculum.
Please Note: Due to the age of CFL, it is slowly being phased out. As a result, we are no longer offering trainings for CFL. If a Grade 6-8 religion teacher has not yet been trained in CFL, please begin using the newly vetted and approved Rooted curriculum for middle school. We also strongly encourage the use of the Revealed curriculum for students in Grades K-5 which provides an age appropriate framework to introduce the beautiful work of Saint John Paul II’s Theology of the Body. Revealed offers our youngest scholars a proper understanding of human dignity and the foundations of beauty, truth and goodness in light of God’s plan for their lives. All curriculum resources and trainings are available on the Rooted and Revealed website. For questions, please contact Colleen Donohoe or view our additional resources page.
